Gold & Silver in Women’s Crit – Canada Summer Games

Congratulations to Alter Ego team member Leah Kirchmann and Woodcock team member Karlee Gendron for dominating the podium in their last race in P.E.I yesterday. The medals cap off a long, hard week of racing for the entire Manitoba team. Full results from the Games can be found here.

Woot, woot Team Toba!

May 3rd club ride report

22 riders, beautiful sun shiny morning, big wind! (not so beautiful). Overall, another great early season ride. Another great group of guys and gals and a full spectrum of age categories and skill levels. I hope everyone enjoyed their ride as much as I did!

We split at Assiniboine Park – some of us continued to Headingly at a higher pace and others turned back to head home. Some wanted to continue on but not at a higher pace so maybe we could have split into 3 groups? Anything is possible!

I had my own personal time trial from the Perimeter to Headingly thanks to Dan’s blistering pace into the wind :-) . Thanks to Carla and John for the pulls! After several months (years?) of slothdom it feels good (yes!) to be a little sore all over this morning.

See you all in a couple of weeks (I’ll be at Grand Beach this Sunday).

Grand Beach Trail Prep

The Olympia Cycling Club is heading to Grand Beach this Saturday to work on the XC course. I came across this note – if anyone is interested in helping out…

Grand Beach Trail Prep

When: Saturday, May 2nd

Meet: Breakfast at Stella’s on Sherbrook @ 9:00

What to Bring: rakes (fan or tine), spade style shovel, pruning shears, axe, buck saw, hoe, food and water.

What we’ll be doing: Tomek and I were there on the 26th and there is not too much dead fall so there is nothing really to clear which is good. Here is what needs to be done:

  • There will be some underbrush to clear from some parts of the trail and this will be most easily done with pruning shears.
  • We will probably clear one new path approximately 20 meters in length, but it is all in the open and hoes, rakes, and shovels will be best for this.
  • We need to assess which parts of the course we are using for race. Ideally XC race times should be around 20-25 minutes for expert and the classic course is longer than this, therefore we will need to see if we can shorten the course while at the same time making sure course has its technical and fun sections.
